Welcome back to another Open Book Blog Hop!
Tell us about an iconic or weird object in your home.

I wouldn’t say I have anything specifically “iconic” in my house, per se. Or weird, really. That said, define weird. Some might say a 38-year-old still playing video games and building Lego is weird/childish. Well, to that I say, “I know you are, but what am I?”
In all seriousness, I think weird is an interesting concept – one person’s weird is another person’s normal. For example, come October, I’ll be putting up a small artificial tree in my home office. Not a Christmas tree, mind you (not that I have an issue with that, as a lover of Christmas). It’s a Halloween tree with purple, orange and green lights, pumpkin lantern tinsel and The Nightmare Before Christmas baubles. But that’s not weird to me.
I guess the nearest thing to weird is the framed print that adorns the wall in my front room. It’s a Tim Burton piece of art called Percepto. To me, it screams Tim Burton in all his glory. Many might be creeped out by it, but I love it!
Percepto does creep me out a bit, but then again I don’t have to look at it in my front room!

That’s an interesting picture, I can see the attraction. As for Lego, what’s wrong with that?

I love Tim Burton’s style and this piece spoke to me.

Exactly! I’m not really into Lego myself, but a lot of the very grown-up engineers where I work LOVE it. And I’m in my 60s and still playing video games. Again, why not? You’re never too old to have fun.
And weird things in your house. Other people might find them weird, but you normalized them for yourself when you brought them home.

I’ve just ordered more Lego today. Between that and vodeo games, they are two of the best things for my mental health.

More and more people are putting their energy into Halloween. We had people buying decorations for the holiday the day after we put them out (at the store I work at). That was back in July!

I love Halloween but in the UK, it’s one day. Christmas however is more of a big thing.

Yeah — I don’t get the whole Halloween-starting-in-July thing. Or the Christmas starting in October. My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving and if it weren’t for Halloween decor that is in the same vein, it would have no decor at all. It barely has a shopping weekend and that’s just food, which might make my house a little stinky if I decorated with it.

Christmas starting in October? HA! The store was supposed to have Christmas stuff out the first week in September.

Tim Burton’s art is iconic. A lot of his influence came from Edward Gorey.
