Open Book Blog Hop – 2nd February 2026

Welcome back to another Open Book Blog Hop!

We’ve talked about stories we’ve revised after many years. Have you ever given up totally on a story idea because you didn’t feel you could handle it, either technically or emotionally?

Remember to visit my fellow writers to see what they have created. You can find their works here!

I’ve discussed my attempt at a Jack the Ripper in past Blog Hops though I’m not sure it counts in this context as I’ve also mentioned how he may just make an appearance in some guise or another. What I will name drop here though is a trio of short story pieces I worked on a number of years ago. They were to be set within the steampunk universe that my two Edison Crow novels exist.

It was intended to be a trio of stories that tell the story of the airship Corvus, and how it came to be in the possession of The Crows before they handed it to Edison and his crew. I was never entirely happy with how they played out, so left them languishing in the slush pile. I still feel like they have a place. But they’ve not been touched for a long time, so for now, they’ll remain in limbo.

That was what I felt at the time. I need to see if I even have the bits I worked on at the time saved and can revisit it. Might send it your way for a second opinion! 🙂

I’ve told this story before – I tried to write a short story of Jake Hennessey about halfway thru the Harmony Duprie series, but he wouldn’t share. I ended up writing that story from Harmony’s point of view.

So, after the Harmony series was complete, I was shocked when Jake popped up and demanded I write his story. But it was the right time, and it ended up being two books.
