What is the best-known cryptid in your area? Or your favourite one?

In the deepest, darkest depths of rural Bedfordshire, we’re not really known for our cryptids. Which, if I’m honest, is a bit of a shame as I quite like a good cryptid or two. The yeti, Bigfoot, the kraken, the Loch Ness monster – there are some iconic cryptids out in the world. But the one that has always most intrigued me is the Mothman. For one, I think he looks pretty cool.
But also, I love the mythology surrounding him, that he’s a harbinger of bad things. He was linked, in the novel The Mothman Prophesies, to the collapse of the Silver Bridge in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Although it was fiction, I love the connection and the idea that he’s become known as the harbinger of bad tidings.
I haven’t heard of the Mothman. He’s a new one on me!

I don’t know of any cryptic in Texas. I do know Virginia has the wood burger or skunk ape which is a small bigfoot.

The first time I heard of Bigfoot I lived in Coastal Oregon. It was easy to imagine Bigfoot wandering among the redwoods.
