Welcome back to another Open Book Blog Hop!
Today’s topic is: As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
And remember to visit my fellow writers to see what they have come up with. You can find their works here!

I don’t entirely recall wanting to “be” anything specific. It made my education and and career decisions a little bit more challenging. That said, when the decision to work on my first book came up, a lot of things clicked into place. I’ve always loved books and reading. It was always something I got a lot of enjoyment from. And I’ve previously mentioned my enjoyment of a class at school where we got to write stories.
With these factors in mind, I think on reflection my dream job was to be a writer. I didn’t quite achieve it as a career path, but I managed to self-publish my book. I have another in the late stages, and a couple more on the go. It might not be my career, but it’s my passion project.
Yes, it would be my dream job as well, but it doesn’t seem possible to make a living from it. Nevertheless it’s my hobby, which I enjoy.

Very true, but I might have gone into a writing adjacent career if not for careers advice telling me writing is a dead end.

Don’t think much of your careers advice!

No, I regret following it.

The big thing is to be happy. If you know that your writing has made others happy, that’s a bonus.

I saw a fantastic quote from Stephen King today: “A story should entertain the writer, too.” Why write it if we don’t enjoy it?

From forums I read, it’s getting tougher to earn your living as a writer, even if you are established with a good following. The rest of us will have to continue getting our rewards with something besides money.

So very true, but I could have made a sidestep into copywriting, journalism or editing far sooner.

I find out as a teen that being a writer was not going to be an easy career. Realizing that early on can help put together a plan of action.

I wish I had planned for it. I was told at school writing wasn’t a career and that is where all the mess started!

Most writers don’t make a living solely from their writer. I’m just happy when it pays for itself. @samanthabwriter from
