Welcome back to another Open Book Blog Hop!
Today’s topic is: Is there a literary character that is not one of your own that you identify with?
And remember to visit my fellow writers to see what they have come up with. You can find their works here!

I won’t lie, I’ve been sat pondering this question for the better part of an hour, if not more. It’s brutally tough. I read as an escape, not necessarily because I identify with a character. True, if I read a book and I have a specific feeling one way or another about a character or characters, it can make me give up on the book. That doesn’t mean I want all characters to be like me, quite the opposite. I just have to see something in a character that adds depth.
So literary characters I identify with. This is really challenging. I guess if we were able to include our own characters it would be too easy. I think all writers are guilty of writing what they know to some extent, so I think at least some of our characters feature elements of ourselves. So who do I pick in terms of characters not my own?
I’m going to go left field on this one. My pick is nephew Fred from A Christmas Carol. He carries the joys of Christmas with him all the time. Christmas is my most favourite time of the year. And “A Christmas Carol” is one of my favourite books, and a few of the film adaptations are annual must-watches in our house. I love the way he is prepared to forgive Scrooge his mean-spirited ways because he is family and because it is Christmas. That’s probably the closest I can come up with for this week!
It took me about 2 days to come up with my answer. A challenging one this week. Glad you could think of somebody!

That’s a great example of a minor character stealing the show.

I particularly love the version in The Muppets Christmas Carol. He’s so compassionate and kind, even in the face of his uncle’s cold nature.

Wouldn’t it be great if we all carried the spirit of Christmas with us all year long?
