Throughout Chasing Shadows a day in the life of Edison Crow would have been quite stressful. He fuelled himself on coffee and something a bit stronger at the end of the day. There would be a significant amount of planning and strategising in his day. Selecting the target for his crew to hit took meticulous research to ensure it was worthwhile going after. He’d assess the risk and reward associated with it. If the planning had been done then the day might just be a little more high risk. He’d be leading his crew on a heist, risking life and limb in an effort to score enough to make life comfortable and safe for them all. Some jobs went smoothly, others, less so. But Edison would agonise over every single detail of each job.

After his escape to the Free States, well life would be a little different. The owner of a high-end inn at the heart of the lively city La Ville de Cuivre, he’d be making his name as an upstanding, reputable businessman. He’d enjoy a leisurely breakfast and a large one at that before heading out to make contacts around the city. But he’s a knowledge seeker at heart. He’d also be seeking treasure and lost knowledge through more legitimate means. And of course, as we see at the end of Chasing Shadows, there’s also a little mystery for Crow to unravel in book two – As the Crow Flies.

It is pretty awesome I must say! I was looking for Victorian era names and Edison came up, and I love the notion of his family name being Crow. It takes on deeper meaning in the second book
