Welcome back to another Open Book Blog Hop!

Do you include your character’s family in your stories?

Remember to visit my fellow writers to see what they have created. You can find their works here!

First up, let’s deal with Edison Crow and Selah. Both are orphans who grew up on the streets, so their families aren’t known. In book two, they encounter The Crows, a sort of tribal family from which they are descended. I don’t detail their characters or connections too much in the book. Crow and his crew form more of a family than any other group in my work, so I suppose in some ways I do include my characters’ families in my writing.

As for including families in general, it really depends on relevance. If it advances the story, or if family plays an integral part in a scene or a character’s personality, then I will happily include them. If, however, there is nothing to be gained by writing and developing the family story, they’re best off left on the cutting room floor.
