What person/place/thing did you enjoy researching the most?

I wouldn’t say there was any one specific thing I enjoyed researching any more than another. When I set out to write Chasing Shadows, my wife bought me a book on all things steampunk. This was a subject I already knew a fair bit about at a general level. This book, however, gave me a deeper dive into fashion, architecture, transportation and customs. It was fascinating, and started my journey down the rabbit hole.

Ever since that first journey, I’ve done ever increasing amounts of research in this space. I’ve looked into methods of submarine travel that could plausibly work in a steampunk universe, and even space travel. It’s been a wild ride, combining these highly improbable ideas with notions of Victorian life, but every time I step back into those steampunk worlds and look up new ideas, it’s something I love!
