Many things are distracting: noise, conversation, music. The internet can be particularly distracting. You start out researching a salient point that is incredibly crucial to your plot, and before you know it, you’re down rabbit hole after rabbit hole of utterly irrelevant information. Fascinating, but useless. And then there’s social media and YouTube. You tell yourself that, as a small reward, you’ll do a little scrolling or video-watching. Before you know it, it’s been hours, and you’ve achieved nothing.
But I think the single biggest distraction when I’m writing is writer’s block. You stare at the blinking cursor for hours and hours with nothing coming to your aid. When the block hits, I just have to walk away and take a break. It often seems to speed up the process of breaking the block.

Ah, yes. The dreaded ‘quick’ internet check. That actually takes hours and provides you with two new novel ideas, and a short story. While failing to answer your original query.

Yes, social media is very distracting, especially if you have those little red notifications coming up on your phone. Unless I put the phone in another room I just cannot ignore them.

It’s like when I someone with THOUSANDS of unread emails! Why? How? I’d hate that!

Thousands? It bothers me to have more than 10! (and some of those I mark as unread as a kind of a to-do list!)

Rabbit holes are so alluring! I went down the ‘it’s all a simulation’ ceo mysteriously passing rabbit hole. Boy was I entertained. Got nothing done! lol
