Which is your favourite holiday and why?

I don’t think anyone who knows me will be in the least bit surprised to find that Christmas is my favourite holiday. It has been for as long as I can remember, and remains so. No one thing makes it my favourite holiday. It’s a collection of things.

  1. Music – I LOVE the music. Christmas carols, cheesy pop songs, rock covers of those songs, and jazz-influenced instrumental pieces make for wonderful ambient music. I love it.
  2. Films – Yes, most of them are all the same, and most of them tend to be phenomenally cheesy, especially the Hallmark movies. But they’re like a warm pair of slippers—cosy and comforting.
  3. Trees and Decorations – This one’s probably the biggest hitter. I love the decorations. Classic, modern, understated and even the most over the top tacky decorations, all of them are amazing. A beautiful tree covered with garlands, beads, ornaments and twinkling lights is pretty special. I love sitting in my lounge, the lights turned off with only the tree for light. Bliss.
  4. Food – I love the traditional Christmas dinner. Turkey, roast potatoes, honey-roast parsnips, and pigs in blankets —perfect. And chocolate, loads of it. And finally, cheese. Approximately five times my body weight in the stuff if I can afford it!
