Happy New Year! Welcome back to another Open Book Blog Hop!
Today’s topic is: What was the best thing that happened to you in 2024? (Writing or otherwise?) The worst?
And remember to visit my fellow writers to see what they have come up with. You can find their works here!

This one is an interesting topic. Last week was a year of challenges. At times I felt burnt out, not just with writing. Aside from my drabbles over on Medium, I lost my way with writing. So I’d say these two elements come together as my negative bits of last year – burnout and a loss of drive and inspiration to write.
Now for the positives. I had a fantastic holiday in Krakow, Poland. Not somewhere I’d really thought of going, but it was incredible. So ticking off a fantastic destination definitely ranks quite highly. Towards the back end of 2024, an idea came to me for a new novel, something quite separate from my third Edison Crow novel or my Christmas thriller. It’s got me really excited and I’m enjoying where the planning is going.
So this year I will be focussing a lot more on writing what I want to write and making sure I enjoy it. I will also be making sure I look after my well-being a lot more. Lots of work to avoid burnout or protecting myself if it hits again. I look forward to what this year brings.
I think we all get a loss of inspiration or desire to write from time to time. I use this period to concentrate more on getting out of the house to go walking, swimming or cycling.

A good reminder to take care of ourselves first. The rest is harder when we haven’t done that. @samanthabwriter from Balancing Act

Exactly this. Still got a fair bit of work to do on that score, but I am getting there.

It was amazing – a beautiful old city with lovely people and loads of history. We also visited Auschwitz which was just incredible. So much more went on than many realise.
And for good measure, we went to a themepark too. The best one outside of Florida that I’ve ever done!

I hope to see more of Europe someday. So far I’ve only gotten to Ireland—which I recommend!
