Welcome back to another Open Book Blog Hop!
Today’s topic is: Do you have any rituals, quirks, or superstitions when it comes to working?
And remember to visit my fellow writers to see what they have come up with. You can find their works here!

I wouldn’t say I have any specific rituals or superstitions when it comes to writing. I don’t have a favourite pen, or lucky underwear, or specific way of organising my writing space. I just have to be in the right frame of mind for it. If I’m too tired, that’s no good. And I actually have to want to write. If I’m only doing it because I feel I have to, that’s not going to do me any favours at all.
One requirement for me though is it can’t be silent. I know for many silence is a must. But for me, silence can be as distracting as having the TV on – also a no go for me. Music is something I like when writing, especially if it sets the scene or mood. But some kind of background noise is a must. It’s probably why I enjoy writing in spaces like coffee shops. But that really is as close to a ritual as I get!
I used to listen to music all the time, now I find it distracts my process.

I can’t imagine writing in a coffee shop. I’d be too busy watching the other customers.

I listen to music when I write too.

Great post, Steven! I can listen to instrumental music when writing, but find songs with words too distracting. I also like to have a cup of hot green tea on hand.
