Open Book Blog Hop – 8th April 2024

Welcome back to another Open Book Blog Hop!

Today’s topic is: What part of the book journey gets you most excited?

And remember to visit my fellow writers to see what they have come up with. You can find their works here!

This week’s topic is an interesting one. I enjoy different elements of the process for different reasons. The first moment an idea comes to you, that’s a pretty special feeling. A vague thread of an idea comes to you a blossoms into something more concrete. Without that element, you can’t even start the process of writing a story – long or short.

Then there’s the moment you sit down and start actually writing. I’ve always loved the feeling of those first few words flowing onto the page. It’s that moment the story blossoms and grows. You can feel the narrative beginning to unroll in front of you.

Finishing the story is the next bit that brings some joy. Knowing it’s done, and the bare bones of the story are there, ready to be polished. It’s a great feeling seeing the story laid out before you from beginning to end. The editing part can feel like a chore. The end result is worth it, but it’s a lot of work to make things the best possible final product you can.

There’s still a lot of work to be done at this stage. The editing, formatting, front and back matter, dedications, acknowledgements, cover design. All of these components are important in the final product. But once you get it there we approach the next wonderful moment – holding that first printed copy in your hands. Your hard work manifested in your hands in physical form.

And then, finally, there’s that moment you sell your first copy. Knowing people are interested enough in your work to purchase a copy is a pretty amazing feeling. But truth be told, I love the entire process of getting a book from idea to finished article.
