Welcome back to another Open Book Blog Hop!
Today’s topic is: Do you have any tips for writing blurbs?
And remember to visit my fellow writers to see what they have come up with. You can find their works here!

This is quite an interesting topic this week as I’ve recently just written the blurb for my crime thriller The Twelve Days of Christmas. Incidentally, you can see that in the online version of my May newsletter. For some reason, when it came to crafting the blurb for Chasing Shadows, I really struggled. This side of marketing has always eluded me. But I’m actually thrilled with what I’ve done recently.
I think an excellent blurb has to hook the reader early. It’s your first and only option to capture them once they flip to the back cover. So what does a good blurb need to do? Well, it’s got to summarise the heart of the story so the reader knows if it’s their cup of tea. But, while telling the reader what the story is about, it’s got to hold back enough to give the reader a reason to read it. It should be punchy, too. It’s not meant to be an essay, but a hook to make someone want to read more. Hopefully, I’ve managed that, but only time will tell.
I reckon that writing the blurb is trickier than writing the story.

It really is! It’s a game of telling the story in around a paragraph, but without telling the story!

I’ve seen some really long blurbs but mine tend to be a paragraph or two.

I also think it’s harder to write a blurb than to write a book. @samanthabwriter from
