Welcome back to another Open Book Blog Hop!
In the US and other countries, many areas are gearing up for festivals and fairs. Do you have a favourite? Any specific part that you don’t want to miss?
Remember to visit my fellow writers to see what they have created. You can find their works here!

If I’m honest, I’m not really a big festival person. Not in the sense of music anyway. No Glastonbury or Download for me. I’d much rather go to one-off gigs where I know I’m going to see one specific artist. But there are other types of festivals or events that I enjoy.
I live in a little rural town (though the bigger urban towns are encroaching all the time) with green spaces and farming around us. Twice a year, every year, our little town hosts an annual steam and country fair. It’s filled with entertainment. The May event is filled with vintage fairground attractions, many steampowered. There’s music from a steam organ, steam buses, vintage cars and tractors. And there are usually displays including sheep herding, birds of prey and stunt motorcycles. This year, we’re hoping the weather plays nice so we can enjoy the flyover of the Battle of Britain aircraft – icons of the British Royal Air Force from World War Two.
There are stalls filled with handmade jewellery, crafts and fudge(!) to be browsed and purchased. And festival-style food stalls including burgers, hot dogs and British favourite fish and chips. Wash it down with local beers and ciders in the beer tent. And a sunny day out over here wouldn’t be complete without a soft serve ice cream. I’ve been every year I’ve lived here, save for COVID, and I always look forward to it.
I love a good festival, all those samples in the food tent.

Yes, we have a steam fair in Suffolk. My son loves it, but I prefer the music festivals.

I’ve never been to a music festival, although I’ve heard plenty of good bands that were part of other festivals. But they sound like fun!

Wow! I’d really love to see a steam event. That sounds like a blast. Do people dress up to go?

No real dress up at this one, though it seems to me there’s plenty of scope to do something steampunk with it!
