Welcome back to another Open Book Blog Hop!
Today’s topic is: What has been the hardest format to write for you?
Remember to visit my fellow writers to see what they have created. You can find their works here!

I’ve been very fortunate in my writing life. Much of what I’ve written or am writing has come easily to me. My two steampunk novels are in a genre I love, so fall into seamlessly. As for my work in progress festive murder thriller, well I love Christmas and I love a delicious murder novel, so this one is quite straight forward too in some regards.
But there’s a project I’ve been alluding to a lot of late. And this one certainly fits the bill for this topic. To give a little more context, this piece is a thriller novel. But to make things a little more complicated for myself, the entire thing will be told through text messages. This might not seem so bad.
I’m a big fan of Stephen King, Terry Pratchett and Tolkien. I love their descriptive writing and their world-building. It’s possibly the part of writing that I’ve loved the most – crafting worlds and creating EVERYTHING. But telling a tale only through texts removes that from me. There can be no exposition, no internal monologue, and no world-building. The entire world exists within the communications of the characters and what they share with one another.
It’s a real challenge but I am beyond excited to see where it goes.
That’s a really exciting project, I love the idea and can’t wait to see how it turns out.

It’s testing me far more than any other that I’ve worked on before, but in a good way. I am taking my time over it. And, in a break from the norm for me, I am planning and plotting it. I need to keep firm track on the characters and what each one knows, as this is the only exposition I can use.

That is a challenge. You has to provide enough contacts so the reader knows what going on but, not too much that it unrealistic for a text message.

I wonder if screenwriting (forms, rules, ideas, theory) could be of help to you on that project…
