Welcome back to another Open Book Blog Hop!
Today’s topic is: What new learning do you have on your list for the upcoming year?
Remember to visit my fellow writers to see what they have created. You can find their works here!

This is likely to sound quite cliché, but I think the biggest thing is to worry less about what others think. This doesn’t just apply to my writing but to several areas. It held me back for a long time before I wrote a book, and at times, it also stalled my writing. Imposter syndrome, fear of rejection, whatever you want to call it, I worry that what I’m doing isn’t good enough. Or that my writing isn’t worthy of people parting with their money for my work.
I’ve regained my drive with an idea I’ve mentioned in previous posts. It’s really got me excited. And I’m not bothered in the least whether anyone else likes it or cares about it. So this year, my big learning will be to do things I want to do regardless of what anyone thinks. And it feels surprisingly liberating.
Sounds like a good idea! As I’ve got older I feel exactly the same way.

Yes, I’ve had the same feelings about the worth of my writing. I now assume that anyone who doesn’t like what I do is not one of my “tribe.” Therefore, they are not worth bothering with.

exactly! Someone not liking your work doesn’t mean it’s bad, but more that it’s not for them.
And that’s okay.

Imposter syndrome isn’t limited to writing or the arts. I’ve learned to accept the fact that there is always someone better than me on any given activity. The only person I should compete with is me. Am I better than I was?

This! It’s exactly what I am working on.

Feel the same way. One person may not like your writing but, the next person might like.

That is sound learning. We could all use a little more to fill our own cup and worry less. We give too much away when we pour out to others what is the little we built for ourselves. Pour from the overflow! That’s good energy, too!
