Open Book Blog Hop – 1st July 2024

Welcome back to another Open Book Blog Hop!

Today’s topic is: Do you have a special way of celebrating when you finish writing a book? Or other achievements in your journey? How do you reward yourself?

And remember to visit my fellow writers to see what they have come up with. You can find their works here!

To be honest, my first novel lead almost immediately into my second novel. So I suppose my celebration was the reward of working on more books!

Jokes aside, One thing I did was to take a breather. To just stop and reflect on what I’d achieved in seeing a book through to completion. The other thing I do is order myself a final copy of the book. I have a shelf at home with some of my most prized books on – signed copies from big name and indie authors, special editions, and one where my comment features on the cover for a book. A copy of all three of my books sits on it.

Is it vain? Perhaps, but I worked hard on my books. Each one contains a piece of me from a specific moment in time. And I’m proud of them. So many people say “I could write a book”. But they never do. I did, and I should be proud if that, irrespective of how well they sell.

Otherwise, I don’t formally do anything as such to celebrate. I just enjoy the time to reflect, then get going on the next idea!

Like Richard, I often move on to starting a new story while I’m editing the last one, not giving myself a break. I need to learn to take a breather.
