Welcome back to another Open Book Blog Hop!
Today’s topic is: What’s your favourite under-appreciated novel?
And remember to visit my fellow writers to see what they have come up with. You can find their works here!

In some ways this is a really tough subject to cover. By who’s definition are we talking under-appreciated? This one is certainly going to generate a real mix of ideas and opinions. And with that in mind I’ve gone purely based upon my personal opinion.
This might come as a surprise for any of you who have looked at the image above, but my pick for this is Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. I became aware of Gaiman through my late discovery of Terry Pratchett and the Discworld series. I’d heard of Good Omens, that was co-authored by Gaiman and Pratchett. I was also aware of his work in the graphic novel space.
But Neverwhere was the first book I read from Gaiman. And I loved it. The idea of unseen worlds that run beneath and yet parallel to London. The concept of a place where all the “unseen” inhabit. It was beautifully crafted and vibrant. And yet I don’t hear enough people talking about it. Maybe they are underwhelmed by it, I don’t know. But I think it should be more widely read than it seems to be from my perspective.
This sounds a good read for somebody into fantasy/science fiction. Unfortunately I prefer true stories or faction.

Sounds like a great concept, like the Hyddenworld books by William Horwood.

I was enthralled when I read it. Gaiman is a fantastic writer.

I think Neverwhere might be the first book I read by him, too. Though he’s well known these days, you still don’t hear much about that one. @samanthabwriter fromBalancing Act

Exactly, it strikes me as one of his that not many know of. In my mind it’s a brilliant piece of writing.

I haven’t read any Neil Gaiman yet. Yes, I know I am out, but I’ve been concentrating on female writers.
