Welcome back to another Open Book Blog Hop!
Today’s topic is: Does every book have to have a moral?
And remember to visit my fellow writers to see what they have come up with. You can find their works here!

Many stories have a moral – a learning for the reader to take away. Particularly for children, but even beyond that, it’s quite common. But is it a necessity for every story to have a moral? I’d say not. Sometimes a moral to a story isn’t a bad thing. They give the reader something to think about when the final page is turned. But it’s not essential. A great deal of my reading is for pure pleasure and escapism. I don’t want to be taught a lesson on what it means to be good, or just, or law-abiding, or whatever else the moral might be. I want to be transported into a rich world filled with vibrant characters. I want a story that carries me from beginning to end. I don’t want to be reminded of what I should be, or do, or aspire to, I want to disappear into a different world.
I agree with you, it’s also interesting to present a bad guy as a character that you can care about.

Do you find though that you have better reviews if your own books have a moral/happy ending?

I only have one book presently, but that’s an interesting thought!

I think a lot of people read for escapism.

Escapism has its appeals, both in my reading and my writing. @samanthabwriter from
