February 2023

Hello and welcome back to my little blog/website! I said last month I intended to keep you all updated on the world of my writing and other works. I’ll openly admit that these updates may be short and sweet, and the number of words added to As the Crow Flies may not seem staggering month on month, but aiming to post here each month will help keep me honest. With that all said, let’s get into the meat of this month’s update!

The Crow’s Nest podcast
So last time out, I mentioned my little side project – my podcast. Since the previous update, I’ve added another two episodes with authors Damon Lee Carter and Sharn Hutton. These latest two episodes bring the first run of the podcast to a close. I’ve learnt a lot about the process through doing this. I hope to offer up more episodes, but I want to take a bit of time to sit down and plan things out and give some thought as to the direction I’ll take it in. If you’ve not yet listened to it, please do give it a listen here and let me know what you think! With feedback, I can make improvements.

As the Crow Flies
I’ve been making slow but steady progress on As the Crow Flies. Nothing groundbreaking, but it’s better than nothing. I’ve added a modest 1,856 words. But it was something of a milestone for me, as it’s tipped the scale somewhat, breaching the 50k word barrier. At this stage it feels like my mindless hammering of a keyboard is turning into a novel. As of today, the total count sits at 50,800 words. Not only that, but I know how and where things must end for this book. I’m still not entirely sure how I get there just yet mind you. That said, my writing is less something I can foresee, and more a journey I am party to alongside my characters. I just document it as it happens in my mind!

And now for something a little different
I’ve started playing around with AI art software MidJourney. I’ve had a little play with this in the past. I attempted to create scenes or ideas to get my mind going but had no idea where to start and so the results were pretty poor. I’ve improved since then. I am working on refining some of the characters in Chasing Shadows which has been fantastic fun. I’ve also been playing around with the idea of creating an image for my short stories, just to add some visual interest to them here on the site. Once I have some, I will get them up and post about it for you all to come and take a look! In the meantime, here’s one I created. I would love to shut myself away in a space like this to just sit and write.
