Welcome back to another Open Book Blog Hop!
Today’s topic is: If you could take a free class at a university, what course would you take?
And remember to visit my fellow writers to see what they have come up with. You can find their works here!

I actually went to university, for a year and a half. I studied psychology. I loved the subject but hated uni. It wasn’t for me. The other problem was, It was the wrong choice for me. Maybe I should have gone for a creative writing course. Hindsight is 20-20 and all that excellent jazz. But I didn’t. So here we are. What should I have done/would I do now if things were different?
I have often thought that a creative writing course is what I should have done. But now I’m not so sure. I fear it might have actually stifled my interest and killed my creativity. And after all is said and done, having a degree would be no guarantee of getting an international bestseller with a high-paying publishing deal.
Maybe something in enditing would have been an option? I’m not entirely certain about that score either though. I’ve been very fortunate that my editor has given me some opportunities to proofread books for her, and more recently, taught me formatting and interior design. These are also fantastic skills to have, ones I hope to put into practice when the time comes with my second novel.
If I’m entirely honest, I’m not entirely convinced there is very much I would take a degree in now. I am happy learning as I go and putting things into practice. I am happy with things and don’t think a degree would alter the course of my career and pursuits all that much really. Don’t get me wrong, in certain pursuits a degree is beneficial, if not essential, but just not for me.
There are so many informal ways to learn, I wonder if I could manage to be sat in a classroom and still have the enthusiasm?
