Open Book Blog Hop – Love to Hate

Welcome back to another Open Book Blog Hop!

Today’s question is: What character have you created that you despise/hate the most?

And remember to pay a visit to my fellow writers to see what they have come up with. You can find their works here!

I have said before that I only have one book so far, but this week I do have something to work with on this theme. And I actually have a couple of characters that fit the bill for this. The most obvious fit would be High Commissioner Mordecai Anvil. He is the leader of the United Republic of the High Commission in Chasing Shadows. Ruling with an iron fist, Anvil wields an army as he sees fit to maintain control and order. He will do whatever he must to stay in power. He is a deeply unpleasant man, who has stayed in his ivory tower by doing unpleasant things. Though he could be considered a mere puppet.

Atticus Rigby is a member of the High Commission, aspiring to rise through the ranks to power. He’s delusional, drunk with power and craving more. Rigby loves to hold things over those that cross him. He enjoys making others suffer, physically and emotionally. Not a particularly nice guy.

I wouldn’t say hate, but there is also Maxwell Gladstone. Gladstone is the defacto leader of a settlement of criminals. He is devious and deceptive, only out for his own gains. He is not to be trusted. I haven’t yet decided if he is going to make a future appearance but if he does, I’ll be sure not to take my eye off him!

In my work in progress – As The Crow Flies – we meet a new character, Algernon Delacourt. Delacourt is a learned gentleman with a high opinion of himself. He isn’t nearly the cold-hearted ne’er-do-well that some of the others are, but he irritates me no end. I may have to come up with an unpleasant finish for this character. I really do hate him.
