As a child in primary school, I read lots of children’s books, but those were the sort of things aimed at improving reading and comprehension skills. I always remember such classics as Meg and Mog, for some reason. And of course, growing up there were staples like Noddy and Fireman Sam, Postman Pat and Thomas the Tank Engine.
Then I remember reading a lot of the Goosebumps books. With hindsight, that’s probably what set me off on a path of reading a great many of the Stephen King novels. The first “proper” novels I remember reading were King novels and the Alex Cross novels by James Patterson. Since then, I’ve read countless novels by many authors, aimed at all ages whether that be the dark words of horrors, thrillers and crime novels, the lighter nature of adult comedies, and even the joyous wonder of fantasy. It’s the earliest books that really paved the way for my journey with books.

By the books that you read as a child I can tell you’re a lot younger than me, but like you I started reading Stephen King’s books and remember being quite enthralled by The Shining when it first came out.
