Where did June go? Between everything going on in the world, adapting to a new way of life for the time being and a busy period at work it has flown by. In the mean time I’ve been working on Chasing Shadows daily, a little at a time. I’ve not achieved the big numbers I had at other times, but I am still happy to have written something every day.
So how is the book coming along? Well part one is complete now. It finished at over 77,000 words. I’ve talked before about part one possibly being book one, though that would depend on how part two comes along. Today the second part of the book sits at just over 10,000 words. With the ideas I have in mind for it, I feel it stands a good chance of becoming a second book. Only time will tell on that front. Overall, the first draft sits at more than 87,500 words. The ideas are still flowing with this next part of the story, and ideas are forming for a potential third adventure but that will have to wait for now.
So, next steps. Well, most importantly, keep writing. I am as yet not worrying about editing until I know what is going to happen with part one and two. Then I can worry about the editing. I know this first draft is by no means perfect just yet. That used to bother me, until I saw a quote from American author John Dufresne – “The purpose of the first draft is not to get it right, but to get it written.” So that’s what I plan to do.
